Story

Rachael & Dan will be heading to Portsmouth on Sunday 22nd October 2017 to take part in the Great South Run, a ten mile route around the city.

At the end of 2016 Rachael's Dad, Rob, was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, IPF.  The family knew very little about the condition for which there is currently no known cause or cure.  It causes progressive scarring of the lungs which affects the ability to breathe. Around 6000 people are diagnosed with the condition each year.

The British Lung Foundation was a brilliant source of information and support during the early stages of Rob's diagnosis which helped the family better understand the condition.

Rachael decided to run the Great South Run for the British Lung Foundation back in May, and Rob was pleased and very supportive. Unfortunately he sadly lost his brave battle with IPF on 21st June leaving a huge gap in the family but also lots of fond memories.

This has made Rachael even more determined to run the GSR, with Dan's support, and despite not being particularly fit at present, every step and breathe she takes on the run will be for her Dad.

If you are able to support Rachael & Dan to raise funds for British Lung Foundation and their research into IPF, support for people and families living with the condition, and their lobbying of the Government for earlier diagnosis and treatment, then that would be fantastic.

A massive thank you

We just wanted to say a massive thank you to you all for your generous support and helping us achieve our target for British Lung Foundation. Dad was still alive when I signed up for this challenge, so today without him was very emotional but he got me through the tough bits. Xx
